Confucius Academy of Guiyang builds a bridge of mutual learning among civilizations
As an important inheritor of Yangming Culture, the Confucius Academy of Guiyang has established a multidimensional network for the international dissemination of Yangming Culture through a number of innovative practices. Adopting diverse approaches such as academic brainstorming, artistic expression, digital communication, and cultural and creative product development, it provides an instructive Chinese solution for global dialogue among civilizations.
By organizing a number of international forums such as the Academic Seminar of China's School of Mind and the World under the "Masters' Views on Confucianism," the Confucius Academy has attracted scholars from many countries and has established an academic network covering the East Asian Confucian culture circle as well as the sinological communities in Europe and the Americas. What is most important is that such academic exchange is no longer a one-way communication pattern.
In the current context of digital technology, which is reshaping the communication landscape, the Confucius Academy's digital practice can serve as a benchmark. The inclusion of the Yearbook of Yangming Studies 2023 in the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) database marks the official integration of the research of Yangming Culture into the global digital academic ecosystem. This digital dissemination realizes global sharing of academic resources, and with the help of algorithmic recommendation mechanism, guarantees access to Wang Yangming's thoughts to overseas academic communities.
The national tour of the original dance drama "Wang Yangming" has created a unique phenomenon of cultural dissemination. After three years of preparation and rehearsal by the Guizhou Song and Dance Theater troupe, more than 40 shows have been staged in 20 famous historical and cultural cities in China, including Guilin, Chengdu, Zhengzhou, Shanghai, Hangzhou and Suzhou. In the show, the concept of "the unity of knowledge and action" is interpreted through the language of dance, and appreciates a poetic dialogue between Eastern and Western body aesthetics. The artistic expression goes beyond language boundaries, and conveys the thoughts of Wang Yangming in an aesthetically intuitive manner.
In order to propel this kind of innovative model of inheriting and developing excellent Chinese traditional culture by positive interplay between tradition and tourism, the Confucius Academy has since the very beginning established a department of industrial development and a platform for enterprise incubation, forming an industrial development pattern dually driven by provincial and municipal entities. On July 7, 2024, the Confucius Academy's Yangming Cultural and Creative Incubation Platform was officially inaugurated. The initiative sought an innovative path to integrate traditional culture into daily life and after a trial run period of 10 months, it has formed systems like the Yangming Maker Camp, developing over 300 products across more than 100 categories, five sales terminals, and two Yangming Maker Camp events.

At the seminar, South Korean scholars concentrated on the shaping of national character based on Wang Yangming's Study of the Mind, which was particularly analyzed in the context of modern Korean history. Specialized in philology, Japanese scholars delved into his philosophy. From the perspective of comparative philosophy, European and American scholars were especially enthusiastic about interpreting cross-cultural translation phenomena. The academic exchanges validate Wang Yangming's philosophical wisdom of "the benevolence of oneness of all things," which is precisely the key to resolving the Clash of Civilizations.

Meanwhile, on another dimension of cultural communication, "The Story of Wang Yangming: Enlightenment in Longchang" Special Exhibition, held by the Confucius Academy of Guiyang, was launched at the art museum of the Japan-China Friendship Center in Tokyo in June. The exhibition displays poems and aphorisms related to "Enlightenment in Longchang," along with around 30 calligraphy works created by Dai Mingxian, Wang Dongling and other renowned artists, showcasing the quintessence of Yangming Culture through the beauty of calligraphy. In his opening remarks, Guiyang mayor Wang Hong said that the exhibition aims to explore history, promote mutual learning among civilizations, and empower local development. Later, Yuji Miyamoto, president of the Japan-China Friendship Center emphasized that Wang Yangming's philosophy had a far-reaching influence, especially as demonstrated in his conversations with local residents after being relegated to Guizhou.
